I chose Munich as the starting point for my journey through Bavaria, the Austrian Tyrol, and Switzerland—and it proved to be an excellent decision. Within just a 50-minute drive, you reach the edge of the Bavarian Alps, with Tegernsee offering a stunning introduction to the region. This picturesque lakeside town is known not only for its natural beauty but also as a summer retreat for affluent residents, including Bayern Munich players who own homes in the area.
Munich itself is far more than a gateway to the mountains. The city is steeped in history and culture, featuring architectural highlights such as the Neues Rathaus, impressive bell towers, grand cathedrals, and a world-famous opera house. Its vibrant atmosphere blends traditional Bavarian charm with modern sophistication, offering everything from classic beer halls and fine dining restaurants to stylish bars and boutiques.
For my stay, I chose Rosewood Munich, one of the newest luxury hotels in the city, having opened in late 2023. The location is exceptional—just a 7-minute walk from Marienplatz, Munich’s central square. This makes it incredibly convenient for exploring the city’s main attractions on foot.
Despite being so centrally located, the hotel feels quiet and private, offering a welcome escape from the lively streets just minutes away. For travelers seeking both accessibility and tranquility, this balance is a major advantage.
One of the standout aspects of Rosewood Munich is its interior design. The aesthetic is elegant, refined, and beautifully executed, blending contemporary luxury with subtle nods to local heritage.
The rooms are spacious by European city standards, with large bedrooms and equally generous bathrooms. What truly elevates the experience is the attention to detail: carefully curated books, high-quality materials, and layered textures create a warm, residential feel that goes beyond typical luxury hotel design.
The hotel’s spa is a serene retreat, featuring a stylish indoor pool, steam room, and sauna. The overall design is calming and luxurious, making it an ideal place to unwind after a day of exploring the city or nearby mountains.
That said, the pool temperature was slightly cooler than expected, which detracted a bit from the relaxation experience. It’s a small detail, but one that could make a noticeable difference for guests seeking full comfort.
Breakfast at Rosewood Munich is served in a beautiful setting and offers an excellent selection of fresh, high-quality, and health-conscious options. It’s clear that the culinary standards are high, and the variety caters well to different preferences.
The service, while polite and well-intentioned, felt slightly unpolished at times. For example, the hostess at the entrance would personally escort each guest to their table, which occasionally led to a queue forming. This suggested that the team may still be fine-tuning operations or could benefit from additional staff during peak hours.
A true highlight of the hotel is Bar Montez, an elegant jazz club that adds a unique cultural dimension to the property. With live jazz performances every evening, it stands out as one of the best jazz venues in Munich.
Even if you’re staying elsewhere, Bar Montez is worth visiting. For music lovers, it offers a rare opportunity to enjoy high-quality live jazz on a nightly basis in a sophisticated setting.
Rosewood Munich delivers a highly compelling luxury experience, combining exceptional design, a prime location, and strong overall amenities. While there are minor areas for improvement—particularly in service flow and pool temperature—the hotel already feels like a leader in Munich’s luxury hospitality scene.
For travelers who appreciate modern design, spacious rooms, and a central yet peaceful atmosphere, it is arguably the best hotel in Munich right now.
